A Brief History
Genesis was founded in 2008 to provide the high school and college percussionists of West Michigan with an opportunity to learn and compete beyond the typical marching band season. Founders Scott Uzarski, Will Gordillo, and Rick Gordillo saw that the need for an ensemble of this type was growing in the area, and in 2009, Genesis made its competitive debut.
Genesis began in independent A class and quickly made a name for themselves by advancing to WGI World Championship Finals. Shortly after, in their second year of competition, Genesis was promoted to Independent Open Class, advancing to WGI Finals multiple times. In 2016, Genesis was promoted again to Independent World Class. Currently, Genesis exists as one of just two World Class ensembles in the state of Michigan. While still pulling members predominantly from West Michigan, Genesis now gains membership from all over Michigan each year.
Today, Genesis prides itself on being able to push its students to perform and compete at an advanced level by providing them with high quality instruction and a positive learning environment. At this level, students are trained in advanced concepts and are constantly being asked to go outside their comfort zones as performers and musicians.
2019 will mark Genesis’ 12th year in competition.
